Mexico City, August 10, 2025
Convened by the Global Alliance for Care, with the support of ECLAC, UN Women, and the Government of Mexico, the Care Pavilion is inaugurated as a multi-stakeholder space for reflection, dialogue, and action, aimed at advancing the visibility of the global care agenda from a feminist, intersectional, and territorial perspective.
In societies marked by deep gender inequalities, care work — historically carried out by women, often unpaid and without social recognition — constitutes an invisible foundation on which life and societies are sustained. In light of this reality, the Care Pavilion of the Global Alliance for Care is envisioned as a transformative space that recognizes this essential work and promotes its redistribution, professionalization, and valorization.
On its opening day, the Pavilion hosted activities that placed the voices and lived realities of caregivers at the center, as protagonists of an indispensable social change. The program included two sessions organized by Yo Cuido México, Apapache Autismo, Canas al Airex La Tribu, and Familias y Retos Extraordinarios.
Early in the day, “Just a Minute: Challenges and Realities in the Lives of Caregivers” was presented, a series of one-minute videos created by and for caregivers, portraying their daily struggles and positioning them as active political actors.
Later, caregivers from across Mexico shared the outcomes of the 1st National Meeting of Caregivers, a milestone for weaving networks, acknowledging knowledge, and advancing the recognition of care as both a right and decent work.
The Pavilion also hosted an internal workshop organized by the Group for the Analysis of Development (GRADE), which included presentations, debates, and working groups on care in Latin America and the Caribbean. This session fostered knowledge exchange, the identification of challenges, and the sharing of experiences that contribute to strengthening care policies and systems in the region.
The Care Pavilion thus began as an innovative and participatory space that reaffirms the centrality of care in the public agenda and its role in building more just and equal societies.
Additionally, as part of the Caring and Transformative Cities program, organized by the Secretariat for Women of the Government of Mexico, the Technical Secretariat of the Global Alliance for Care participated in Plenary III of the 1st Forum of Subnational Governments of the XVI Regional Conference on Women in Latin America. In this space, the importance of local governments having a voice, a vote, and participation in multilateral agendas was emphasized as a key means to accelerate the development of care systems.
