📍 Casa de la Provincia, Seville | June 30, 2025During the opening days of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4), the Care Pavilion has established itself as a central space for reflection, dialogue, and political advocacy. Promoted by the Global Alliance for Care, with the support of Spain’s Ministry of Equality, the Provincial Council of Seville, and the Andalusian Fund of Municipalities for International Solidarity (FAMSI), efforts are underway to position care financing as a structural priority in global economic and social development agendas.
The program kicked off on Sunday, June 29 with the event “A Conversation on the Future of Development,” organized by Global Affairs Canada and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). This closed-door meeting brought together key institutional representatives to discuss new development strategies focused on well-being, equality, and sustainability, with care as a core pillar.
On Monday, June 30, the Pavilion officially opened with the “GAC Morning Coffee,” an informal space for conversation and coordination among Global Alliance for Care members, fostering spontaneous idea exchange, strategies, and alliances.
Later, the session “Why and How to Guarantee Financing for the Right to Care? Reflections and Proposals from Latin America and the Caribbean,” organized by Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) and Oxfam Latin America, shared legal, fiscal, and cooperation proposals to strengthen universal care systems in the region.
In the afternoon, the panel “Financing Care to Achieve the SDGs: A Global South Agenda from Seville to 2030,” co-organized by IDRC, Southern Voice, GRADE, UN Women, ECLAC, UNRISD and other entities, brought together Global South perspectives to propose concrete mechanisms to integrate care into financing for development frameworks.
The day concluded with the “Official Opening of the Global Alliance for Care Pavilion and IDRC Reception,” hosted by the Government of Spain, the Provincial Council of Seville, FAMSI, the Global Alliance for Care, and the IDRC, at the Pavilion’s Central Courtyard. This event served to consolidate institutional alliances in support of the global care economy.
In addition, the Care Pavilion launched three permanent exhibitions connecting art, culture, and care justice:“Hands that Nurture” (Artra Ecuador) highlights caregiving practices in Ecuadorian communities.“Portrait of a (Working) Mother” (Make Mothers Matter) shares stories of working mothers in Europe.
