National Caregivers Meeting in Mexico
The Global Alliance for Care, together with Inmujeres and UN Women organized the "National Meeting of Caregivers of Mexico". Community caregivers, nurses, domestic workers and caregivers of people with disabilities came together to work on a common agenda.
On June 26 and 27, 2023, the Alliance organized a National Caregivers Meeting, together with Inmujeres and UN Women. During a day and a half, Mexican community caregivers, nurses, domestic workers, as well as caregivers of people with disabilities shared experiences, articulated and ended the meeting with a solid commitment towards building a strong community of caregivers in order to make care work visible, and to advance the political agenda in recognizing the right to care.
A special mention is the fact that in order to allow caregivers to participate in the Mexican meeting, the Alliance hired caregivers to take care of the participant’s dependents, or wired money to the caregivers so that they could hire caregivers in their homes, in order to be able to participate in the Meeting. This is a clear example of a good practice to be implemented in the future.
