The "Global Digital Community on Care" platform was launched in alliance

This tool offers information, videos, laws, policies, and advocacy strategies from urban and rural areas, countries, and regions on the care issue. The platform aims to be a starting point for policymaking on the issue of care.

The National Institute of Women (Inmujeres), in collaboration with UN Women Mexico, the Gender Justice and Development Programme of the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD), the International Development Centre of Canada (IDRC), and the Global Alliance for Care (GAC) today launched the "Global Digital Community on Care" platform. It is an effort to consolidate a global care agenda that transforms culture and reduces inequalities by ensuring the recognition, reduction, and redistribution of domestic and care work.

This site is a repository of care-related information produced by the GAC membership, including research, data, experiences, videos, laws, policies, advocacy strategies, and types of services from urban and rural areas, countries and regions, and sectors. The Global Digital Community on Care aims to provide a diversity of resources that can be useful in advancing the care agenda, whether for the design and implementation of care policies and services or for analysis and research, as well as for the development of regional communication and advocacy strategies.

During the launch, the president of Inmujeres, Nadine Gasman Zylbermann, said that it is necessary to move towards societies of care, where the sustainability of life and the planet is prioritized, in addition to recognizing care as a human right and a public good whose construction is the responsibility of all. "From the Alliance, Inmujeres, and the Government of Mexico, we want to continue working hand in hand, in a co-creative and collaborative way, because each of us is the one who puts women, girls, and adolescents at the center, to advance the care agenda from the local to the global level," added the President of Inmujeres.

The coordinator of the Gender Justice and Development Programme of UNRISD, Francisco Cos Montiel, urged the appropriation of this repository, which includes all the information on care, in order to generate collective knowledge. Carolina Robino Picon, Senior Programme Officer at the IDRC, mentioned that the platform is a collective space that must be built by all of us in order to continue advancing on the fundamental issues of care.

The consolidation of care societies represents a common good, a benefit that implies well-being for the community, which also translates into economic growth, which contributes to the prevention of violence and the strengthening of the social fabric. In this regard, the UN Women representative in Mexico, Belén Sanz Luque, pointed out that the UN is committed to generating global and regional links to address the issue of care, measure its social implications and guarantee this right.

During the presentation of the platform, an informative panel entitled "Importance and relevance of the Global Digital Community on Care" was held, moderated by the interim Technical Secretary of the GAC, Emilienne De León Aulina. She explained that the Global Digital Community on Care "draws on the materials and resources of the members of the Alliance" and invited the membership "to continue to nurture this platform with their work, good practices and lessons learned, where they will find a space for dialogue, learning and advocacy to promote their efforts and work together to recognize, reduce and redistribute care".

The launch panel also included representatives from the governments of Spain, Tanzania, and the Philippines, the International Labour Organization (ILO), and Global Affairs Canada, who shared their experiences and actions that put care at the center. The Global Digital Community on Care platform has a wealth of resources generated by the Global Alliance for Care membership. This first phase will be enriched with new information generated by the membership and will be updated through the incorporation of users' experiences.
