The purpose of this report is to deepen understanding of the factors that drive the separation of children from their families and their placement in alternative care in various contexts, and to offer a set of key recommendations to prevent separation. It is based on a compilation of research carried out over two years at the global and national levels in collaboration with several academic institutions and responds to a growing care crisis affecting millions of children and their families around the world.
