No guilt, no job loss. Motherhood and work should not be rights in tension.
The article examines the tensions between the right to motherhood and the right to work in Mexico, highlighting how pregnancy and breastfeeding continue to face structural barriers in the workplaces. It outlines for the recognition of care as a shared social responsibility rather than an individual burden disproportionately borne by women.
Within this context, the article presents a legislative reform proposal on social security, protection for continued breastfeeding, and job stability, promoted by Mexiro A.C., Deputy Patricia Mercado, and the CUIDA Coalition. The proposal aims to recognise and protect continued breastfeeding, guarantee employment security during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and move towards an equal and discrimination-free workplace culture.
