Building Care Systems Across Latin America, the Caribbean, and Africa from the Global South Lessons and Pathways from the CELAC-Africa Peer Learning Exchange
This document summarizes three key events: a high-level panel featuring experiences from Brazil, Colombia, Kenya, Mexico, Uruguay, and Zimbabwe on care as a political and institutional project; a “Circle of Words” featuring indigenous, Afro-descendant, and community voices advocating for community-based care as the foundation of care systems; and visits to Bogotá’s Care Bus and Care Blocks as examples of local implementation. The report identifies sustainable financing, intersectoral coordination, the reduction of gender and territorial inequalities, and the strengthening of data and evidence as priorities. It concludes that South-South cooperation, supported by multi-stakeholder platforms, is key to moving from recognition to implementation.
