Cuba is among the most aged countries in Latin America and the Caribbean and in the midst of an economic crisis, now aggravated by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. This book helps to understand the challenges faced by Cuban society in terms of care and welfare, through an interdisciplinary and diverse look at different theoretical and methodological approaches to the subject. It is a first comprehensive contribution on the subject in the island, where research related to care is still incipient. It has been in the interest of the publication to cover different groups requiring care (elderly, children, people with disabilities), to show some components of this crisis (demographic, legal, political, ethical, economic), as well as the different strategies and policies to address it. We hope that this book can contribute to a better understanding and analysis of the deep care crisis that Cuban society is going through, the multiple and complex needs that arise from it and the role that corresponds to the different actors (State, market, family and community) in a more equitable redistribution of care responsibilities.
