The Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS) has sustained an extensive agenda of research and academic production on the conditions under which women in the continent exercise maternity. In the publication Maternity and Social Security, it is stated that maternity is a social risk, revalued and redefined from a public perspective based on freedom, equality and dignity. Traditional maternity protection schemes have conditioned mothers to remain in the domestic space in which they exercise the functions of care and upbringing while fathers continue in the productive sphere without their income and activities being affected.
