Laws are the guarantor instrument for eliminating direct discrimination that undermines the full enjoyment of women's rights. Therefore, promoting the repeal of laws that discriminate against women in Ibero-America is a first and necessary step towards achieving real and substantive gender equality. To this end, SEGIB is working together with UN Women on an initiative that aims to: show the extent of legislative inequality that affects women's economic empowerment; encourage action to repeal discriminatory laws and foster gender-sensitive laws and policies; and promote multi-sectoral alliances to achieve effective and impactful legislative reforms.
