Learning Community 2024/ Session 1: The importance of care for women's rights. Part I
During the first session “The importance of care for women's rights”, held on February 21, 2024, the centrality of care and the importance of investing in this agenda from a macroeconomic perspective were discussed.Panelists: Alma Espino, Coordinator of the Development and Gender Area of the Interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Development of Uruguay (CIEDUR).Raquel Coello, Regional Specialist in Economic Empowerment Policies at the UN Women Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean.February 2024 marked the beginning of the Learning Community “Realities and Challenges of Financing Care Policies and Systems in the Global South”, organized by Oxfam LAC, Mesa de Economía Feminista, Latindadd, the Global Care Alliance and UN Women. This series of meetings, which runs from February to August, aims to learn about the main challenges in terms of public financing and tax collection, from the feminist and economic justice agenda, to recognize, redistribute, reduce, represent and reward care work. The meetings are also a space for the exchange of international, national and local initiatives on financing and taxation in the care sector.
