Learning Community/ Session 1: The importance of care for women's rights. (English Interpretation)
During the first session "The importance of care for women's rights", on February 21, 2024, the centrality of care and the importance of investing in this agenda from a macroeconomic perspective were discussed.Panelists: Alma Espino, Coordinator of the Development and Gender Area of the Interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Development of Uruguay (CIEDUR).Raquel Coello, Regional Policy Specialist on Economic Empowerment at UN Women Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean.The Learning Community "Realities and Challenges of Financing Care Policies and Systems in the Global South” was launched in February 2024.This cycle of sessions, which runs from February to August 2024, aims to promote learning on the main challenges in public financing and tax collection to support the recognition, redistribution, reduction, representation, and rewarding of care work. The sessions also provide a space to share international, national, and local initiatives related to financing and taxation for the care sector. Co-convened by Oxfam LAC, Feminist Economic Roundtable, Latindadd, the Global Alliance for Care, and UN Women.
