The Institute of Social Studies Trust (ISST) is a feminist research and advocacy organisation in India with over 40 years of experience in gender, labour, social protection and care work. Through policy-oriented research, ISST amplifies the experiences of marginalised women workers and has contributed to evidence and advocacy on issues such as domestic work, unpaid care, women’s economic empowerment, the informal economy, platform work, frontline workers during COVID-19, digitalisation and the circular economy. Its work highlights the structural barriers—including gender norms, power imbalances and care responsibilities—that limit the recognition and rights of women workers, particularly in the informal economy.
