Fundación Morena is a nongovernmental organization that originated in the context of the implementation of university diploma programs—the first of their kind in northeastern Argentina—in Gender and Sexualities. From there, a group of women emerged who, through numerous projects, gradually fulfilled the organization’s mission, dedicating a large part of their efforts to eradicating gender-based violence and combating the primary factor of social inequality: the gender division of labor.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the volunteers of the Morena Foundation took the initiative to create a dozen worker cooperatives providing care for older adults (PAM), and based on this, the organization has deepened its commitment to recognizing and valuing care work—which is primarily carried out by women—as another form of oppression that intersects with other issues the organization has explored in terms of class, ethnicity, gender, and age. Hence its special emphasis on caring for those who care, and on protecting and supporting older adults free from violence. Some of its current projects include: - Co-directing the Certificate Program in Gerontological Policies and Elder Care, with an intersectional and gender-based perspective, in partnership with the National University of Southern Chaco. - Strengthening cooperatives and social work organizations within the “Red Chaco te Cuida” network - Joining the “La cocina de los Cuidados” network led by the NGO Center for Legal and Social Studies
